which began in the late 1960s while still in middle school in Puerto Rico. Establishing himself as not only one of the
top fighters in the Caribbean, but also an excellent instructor Montalvo has
numerous martial arts decorations to his name. At the end of 2000, Hanshi Montalvo 10◦
founded three Martial Arts Organizations:
Ronin Goju Ryu Kai World Karate
Organization (a Goju Ryu based karate organization
that believes in rescuing the traditional values and ancient combat techniques
of Okinawan Goju, incorporating contemporary fighting methods in tune with
today’s challenges),
The International Ronin Martial Arts
Federation (a federation composed of several Martial
Arts Organizations) and
Ronin Police Defensive Tactics Instructors
Association (an association composed of Sworn Law
Enforcement Officers, all Martial Arts practitioners, and instructors of
several LE Agencies and Military Organization, with the common goal to improve
their tactical operations techniques through the use of Martial Arts and
Survival Techniques).
Hanshi Montalvo is a US Government certified instructor on Closed Quarters Combat,
Safety & Survival Tactical Instructor, Street Alertness Instructor, Advance Undercover Operatives
Techniques Instructor, Special Response Team (SRT) and Special Weapons and
Tactics (SWAT) Instructor and he is presently a Peer Support Team Member and an
SRT Crisis Negotiator with a US Governement Agency.
Hanshi Carlos H. Montalvo is also a loving family man who is dedicated to the service
of Country, Family and the Ronin Martial Arts Organizations. Hanshi Montalvo currently resides in a
Southern State of the US where he continues to live through the precepts of the
Bushido as a true Ronin.
The term “Rônin” was given to most “Samurai” Warriors of the “Bushi” class, who did not
serve a particular master, because the latter was dead, or because his land had
been confiscated, or embraced a religion or way of life that do not require the
services of these personal guards or soldiers.
Some of these Rônin became martial arts instructors (Sensei), bodyguards
(Yoyimbo), protectors of villages (Damyo), etc.
Many Martial Arts Schools (Ryu) were created by a Ronin. Rônin Goju Ryu Kai maintains a clear
commitment to the preservation of the tradition of the Goju Karate created by
Miyagi O’Sensei, but incorporates fighting methods and self defence techniques
that are in tune with the critical and violent demands of today’s street
survival.
